BEST 3 HACKS TO SPRING CLEAN LIKE A PRO

Are you considering spring cleaning this year, but don’t know where to start? Don’t worry, we’re here to help! Today, we’re going to share with you our best hacks to tackling those once-a-year tasks!

If you’re anything like me, you don’t want to spend all of your free time cleaning. But there’s tasks that we just tend to neglect the rest of the year, and sometimes you just have to buckle down and get ‘em done. So hopefully these following tips will help you get them done better and more efficiently.

Ok, let’s do another countdown…

HACK #3 – MAKE A CHECKLIST!

I LOVE CHECKLISTS!!! Maybe it’s because I’m an ultra-planner, or maybe it’s the satisfaction I get when crossing something off the list, but either way, they ARE helpful! So first of all: TURN ON SOME GREAT MUSIC THAT GETS YOU MOVING! Then, go into each room and put on your checklist not only the regular cleaning tasks that need to happen, but those neglected, once-a-year tasks as well. Keep reading for ideas of what those tasks could include…

HACK #2 – TIME BLOCK!

Now we use this in our professional lives as real estate agents, but you can really use it for any large task. So you want to take the time that you have allotted to spring clean—let’s say 8 hours (because again, if you’re like me, I’m only giving one day to cleaning!) and break it down into smaller blocks of time where each block is devoted to a specific task. What this will do is help you stay on track and be more efficient while you spring clean. So for example:

· 9-10am – START THE LAUNDRY PROCESS!

throw in washable curtains, mats, throw blankets, decorative pillowcases, etc.

· 10-11am – DUST ENTIRE HOUSE!

starting with ceilings, ceiling fans, light fixtures and bulbs, walls, window and door trim, doors, furniture, and finishing with baseboards

· 11am-12pm – WASH ALL WINDOWS!

use microfiber cloths for a lint free shine, remove and scrub all screens, and clean any remaining window treatments

· 12-1pm – CLEAN ALL BATHROOMS!

in addition to your regular tasks here, reseal the tile grout and countertops as appropriate

· 1-2pm – TACKLE THE KITCHEN!

toss expired food, clean inside and outside of all appliances with appropriate cleaners, reseal any tile grout and countertops as appropriate, wipe down all cupboards and surfaces, wash trash cans

· 2-3pm – REVIVE ALL UPHOLSTERED FURNITURE!

beat cushions outside, clean stains, vacuum (including mattresses…don’t forget to flip them upside down and head to foot), fluff, and Febreze

· 3-4pm – FINISH WITH THE FLOORS!

vacuum and spot clean all carpeting and rugs, and Swiffer and mop all hard surfaces

· 4-5pm – RETURN EVERYTHING TO ORDER!

put the laundry away, change any needed lightbulbs and smoke alarm batteries, and make sure everything is picked up and back in it’s place—then it’s time to relax and enjoy your sparkly clean, fresh smelling home!

Now keep in mind that this is just an example, and you want to figure out what tasks you need to accomplish, the amount of time you can give to them, and create a time blocking plan that coincides with that.

HACK #1 – WORK FROM THE TOP, DOWN!

You may have gotten this already from the above time blocking schedule, but yes, you want to start with things like dusting, ceiling fans, etc; to cleaning showers, furniture, your fridge; and finish with the floors. This will prevent you from cleaning something, getting it dirty again, and having to re-clean. Happy Spring Cleaning!
